Show up, every day, just show up.
Just Show Up
As I continue reflecting on what it really takes to accomplish my goals, one truth keeps rising to the surface:Just show up.Sit down. Be present. Do the work.
It sounds simple—maybe even too simple. But the real key? Consistency.Having the discipline and self-control to keep showing up… that’s where transformation begins.
And let’s be honest—it’s not easy.Whether it’s making it to the gym, sitting down at the computer, or being fully present with your spouse and kids, showing up feels like a small task. But in reality, it's often the hardest part.
Why?Because life pulls us in a million directions.Work. Chores. Exhaustion. The temptation to just veg out after a long day. All of it distracts us from what truly matters—from our goals, our purpose, and the things that can actually change our lives.
I was never supposed to be a black belt.Honestly, I wasn’t supposed to be much of anything—if you asked my peers, my stepdad, or even some of my early martial arts instructors. For a long time, I was lazy, unfocused, and had no idea how to set goals, let alone achieve them.
But I found my motivation—fueled by spite.Healthy? Maybe not. But being told I couldn't, that I wasn’t good enough, lit a fire in me. It pushed me to prove everyone wrong.
So, I started showing up.As many days a week as I could.I figured out public transportation just to get to class when I didn’t have a ride.I started teaching at the studio to help pay for tuition and tournaments.
And then something surprising happened…
I started to enjoy the grind.I liked being dependable. I liked how working out made me feel. I loved the accountability. And before I knew it, I got good.My body changed. My mindset shifted. My results at tournaments improved. All because I kept showing up.
Eventually, I became known at my studio—then on the local circuit. That recognition reinforced my behavior, and over time, it created a lifestyle.
So yeah… that was the long version of a simple truth:Just. Show. Up.
Even when it’s hard.Even when you’re tired.Even when life keeps knocking you down.
You have to want the change more than the comfort.Embrace the struggle. Embrace the suck. And keep showing up.
